Frequently asked questions

The border doesn't appear when my camera turns on

Check three things, in this order:

1. OnAir is running — look for its icon in the menu bar. If it isn't there, launch OnAir from your Applications folder.
2. Camera access is granted. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure OnAir is switched on.
3. The display you're looking at is selected. OnAir's settings let you choose which displays show the indicator, so check that the one in front of you is ticked.

Why does OnAir ask for camera access?

macOS requires camera access before an app can tell whether the camera is in use. OnAir uses that access solely to detect whether the camera is active. It does not capture, record, store, or transmit any image or video data.

Does OnAir see my video, or send anything anywhere?

No. OnAir runs entirely on your Mac. There are no accounts, no analytics or telemetry, and no cloud services — nothing about your camera or your calls leaves your device. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Why doesn't the border show up when I share my screen?

That's deliberate. The indicator stays visible on your own display but is hidden from screen sharing and screen recordings, so the people in your meeting never see it — only the people in your room do.

Which video apps does it work with?

All of them. OnAir reacts to the camera itself rather than to any particular app, so Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, FaceTime, Photo Booth and anything else that switches the camera on will trigger the indicator. There's nothing to set up per app.

I have several displays. Which one lights up?

Whichever ones you choose. OnAir's settings list your connected displays with a checkbox each, so you can light up a single screen, a few of them, or all of them.

Can I change how the indicator looks?

Yes. You can adjust the thickness of the border, the size of the indicator, and whether the lamp sits in the top-left or top-right corner.

How do I make OnAir start automatically?

Turn on launch at login in OnAir's settings and it will start with your Mac. You can also review it later under System Settings → General → Login Items.

What do I need to run OnAir?

A Mac running macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later.

How do I quit or uninstall OnAir?

To quit, click the OnAir icon in the menu bar and choose Quit. To uninstall, quit the app and then move OnAir from your Applications folder to the Trash.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them rather than us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

• your macOS version and Mac model;
• the version of OnAir you're running;
• which video app was in use; and
• what you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
